F.A.Q.

Note, 12/10/2013: TransitPeople is closing up shop! Please see the news page for more information.

How much does it cost?

Our trips are free to low income schools. We cover admission expenses, and either obtain transit passes from MTA or pay for transit.

Where do you get your money?

TransitPeople is a 501(c)3 public charity, and donations to TransitPeople are tax-deductible. We are grateful to the many foundations that have supported us through grant funding, and to our individual donors.

Are you part of the school district? Of MTA?

No. TransitPeople is an independent nonprofit.

How long have you been doing this?

Our first trips were in 1999

Is there a catch?

There are a few:

•  We limit group size to a maximum of twenty to twenty-four children on trips requiring bus transit. For schools that aren't within walking distance of a train station, that means all trips.

•  We only visit educational destinations accessible by public transit. Some centrally-located school sites have good access to most of the destinations listed on our destinations pages. Others have good access to some of the destinations, and poor access to others. And some excellent destinations can't be visited at all: for instance, the Leonis Adobe in Calabasas.
